Welcome to Seattle Metro Softball Umpires Association

We are nearly 200 women and men who are proud to umpire all levels of softball games in the greater Seattle area.

Every year umpires in our association work:

    • 150 college-level games
    • 1,000 high school and middle school fast pitch games
    • 6,000 slow pitch USA Softball games
    • 1,800 youth fast pitch USA Softball games

We take great pride in the excellence of our free training programs for all our members, the professionalism and experience of our Board and assignors, and the dedication of each of our umpires to the game of softball and all those who play.

The Blues of SMSUA enjoy flexible hours, good pay, free training, and a professional staff. Most important, our Blues enjoy the strong bonds of friendship and fun.

Over 50 years ago, a group of umpires got together and formed what has evolved into Seattle Metro Softball Umpires Association, better known as SMSUA.

SMSUA provides softball umpires throughout King County, covering Junior High (Middle) School and High School Girl’s Fast pitch, Women’s Community College fast pitch, USA Softball Junior Olympic Girl’s Fast Pitch, and USA Softball slow pitch (Men’s, Women’s, and Coed) for many of the Parks Departments and Independent leagues in King County. Several SMSUA members also umpire NCAA Division I, II and III games.

SMSUA has one of the most outstanding umpiring and training programs in the country. The men and women of SMSUA are some of the best umpires in the nation. Over the last few years, SMSUA members have worked numerous USA Softball National Championship Tournaments (both Slow Pitch and Fast Pitch) all across America, the NCAA College Fast Pitch World Series, and numerous International Tournaments including the Olympics and Word Championships. We are proud of our umpires who officiate games and tournaments. We also take pride in the dedication, time, and effort that we put into developing and improving our umpire skills.
